Sears Names Lana Cain Krauter Apparel President

Lana Cain KrauterHOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.—Sears Holdings, parent company of Sears and Kmart, has hired former Bealls Inc. president Lana Cain Krauter as SVP and president of Sears Apparel. She starts on February 1 in the San Francisco office.

“Lana is a great addition to our apparel team,” said Sears apparel & home EVP John Goodman. “She brings to the company an excellent track record with brand, product and customer loyalty program development and a demonstrated success in creating and inspiring high performance teams.”

Krauter was named president of Bradenton, Florida-based department store chain Bealls in mid-2008. Prior to that she was EVP and GMM of men’s and children’s at J.C. Penney. She has also held positions at Goody’s, Stage Stores. In the 1990s, she was head of Sears’ women’s wear, accessories and intimate apparel.

Sears is making large investments in apparel, a business that it was seen to give up on after the “softer side of Sears” campaign during Krauter first stint with the company in the 1990s.

Sears opened a new apparel office in San Francisco in February 2009 to augment its existing design office in Manhattan. At the time, apparel & home head John Goodman said, “Sears Holdings believes that by creating a presence in California, we will greatly enhance our ability to attract talent within one of the country’s centers of excellence for the apparel industry.” The San Francisco office handles apparel merchandising for both Sears and Kmart stores.

Sears Holdings operates about 3,900 stores in the U.S. and Canada. The company owns the Lands’ End, Jaclyn Smith and Joe Boxer brands.
