Under 40 bucks and eco-friendly—who won’t want to wear these shoes?
By Hannah Roth
Etnies has teamed up with Joie De Vivre Hotels to promote their “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree” campaign from June through September 2011. The three participating Californian hotels—Hotel Erwin in Venice Beach, Shorebreak in Huntington Beach and Pacific Edge Hotel in Laguna Beach—were each chosen for their relaxed and sporty Southern Californian vibe, a perfect compliment to Etnies chill skater-boy feel. The campaign helps spread the word about reforestation efforts in Costa Rica: hotel guests receive a special promotional code for $20 off and free shipping on Etnies’ Jameson 2 Eco shoes, which normally retail for $59, at etnies.com. Also, for every pair of Jameson 2 Eco shoes purchased, a tree will be planted on the guest’s behalf in what will soon become a new rainforest. The shoes are made from recycled bike tires, plastic gloves and plastic bottles. In addition, there is a “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree” blog on the Etnies website, which follows the Etnies crew as they explore and make friends with Costa Rican natives and park rangers, all while looking tanned, relaxed and wearing perfectly worn-in Etnies.
