Getting ahead of what is sure to be an athletic-inspired year for fashion—the 2012 London Olympics start at the end of July—U.S. Polo Assn. is the official apparel supplier of the World Snow Polo Championships, held December 17-18, 2011, in Aspen, Colo. The Pro-Series collection includes double knit team jerseys, event staff jerseys, down-filled systems jackets, team official parkas, headwear and a nylon gear bag. Team sponsors for the event are U.S. Polo Assn., Audi, Piaget, KIG, and Ciroc. The U.S. Polo Assn. brand is licensed by Jordache Enterprises.

Five teams, comprised of international players mounted on Colorado polo ponies, will compete in the two-day elimination tournament in Aspen’s Rio Grande Park. World-class players (and models) Nacho Figueras and Nic Roldan (the face of Piaget), will compete for Baccarat trophies.
Snow polo was first introduced in the Swiss resort town of St. Moritz, and in the United States the sport is played exclusively in Aspen. A modified version of traditional polo, games are played on a snow-packed arena surrounded by fencing, while teams are comprised of three players. Play consists of four seven-minute “chukkas” and horses are shod with special cleated shoes to provide better traction.

For the 12th year running, the Roaring Fork Polo Club hosts the event, benefitting Aspen Sister Cities, an international exchange program for local youth.
