The 10-year trajectory of Robert Graham sportswear is a phenomenon in itself. The addition of a jeanswear component that easily competes with the best denim out there brings it to another level. Throw in some amazing footwear, very cool accessories (hats, belts, socks, scarves) and surprisingly strong knitwear and it’s clear that Robert Graham is more than those (still hot) contrast-trim shirts.
About the denim: it retails at $188 to $398. (The big hit first delivery was a twill model at $168, according to Gary Sims.) Best-booked styles for fall 2012 are fashion pieces: “Left handed colored denim that is hand sanded. Italian selvedge denim. Full body lasered herringbone. Italian selvedge and brown tweed denim. Luxurious tricotine twills with a peached finish.”
My personal favorite: the super soft, garment-washed 18 wale cords in great colors (with dyed-to-match flocking on the interior yoke and pockets). So far, the best-booked shades are black, sand, army, vicuna and gray, but I’m betting on the brights: it’s time!
Sims maintains that the jeans collection has clearly resonated with a younger demographic, and thus more contemporary stores. “The Slim Jim fit has been stronger than we anticipated and the tops are all a slimmer fit than classic Robert Graham. But we’re also getting great distribution with the current Robert Graham account base of premium men’s stores.”
