Geoffrey Beene CEO Honored for Medical Research Advocacy

WASHINGTON—Geoffrey Beene CEO Tom Hutton was among the honorees for Research America’s 14th Annual Advocacy Awards in Washington, D.C. last night.

Hutton, who is also the CEO of the Geoffrey Beene Foundation, received the Isadore Rosenfeld Award for Impact on Public Opinion for the Foundation’s “Rock Stars of Science” campaign, which juxtaposed medical research scientists with musicians to promote work done on Cancers, Alzheimer’s disease, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and HIV/AIDS. The campaign launched with a six-page ad spread in last June’s GQ and followed with shorter ads in other magazines.

At left: Dr. Rudy Tanzi, Kennedy Professor of Neuroscience at Harvard, and Dr. Francis Collins, Head of the NIH, with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry.

The other honorees included U.S. Rep. David Obey (D-WI), Ann Lurie of the March of Dimes; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine board chair Robert Klein and J. David Gladstone Institutes Founding Director Dr. Robert Mahley.

Research America is a non-profit organization that promotes health research.
