Los Angeles, CA — Kimora Lee Simmons is leaving Baby Phat after fourteen years. Kimora and Baby Phat’s parent company, Kellwood Company, will go their separate ways as of September 1, 2010. Simmons became President of Phat Fashions in 2007 when her ex-husband Russell Simmons stepped down.
Judging from the reality star/fashion designer’s tweets, leaving the fashion label was not her choice. Baby Phat’s parent company Kellwood Company has apparently pushed Kimora out. She tweeted, “Sometimes we have limited choices in life. We have 2 RIDE the WAVE baby!”
A press release from Simmons reads: “After 14 years of conceiving and nurturing Baby Phat, it’s time for me to move on and further expand my other businesses and create a new phenomenon,” Simmons says. “I adore all those who have faithfully been with me since the beginning.”
