American Eagle Profits Fall Short in Q2

PITTSBURGH—American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. fell short of its profit and sales goals for the second quarter. Profits were down 6 percent to $240 million and sales rose slightly to $652 million from the previous year’s Q2 sales of $647 million.

“The second quarter was a challenging period, resulting in a miss to our sales and profit plans,” commented CEO Jim O’Donnell in the company’s earnings statement. “Given the inconsistencies in business trends and unpredictable consumer behavior, we have intensified our actions to improve efficiencies, streamline our process and strengthen profitability. We are committed to driving change across the organization and delivering sustainable long-term growth.”
