It was among the most special industry events ever: On a very stormy November evening the week following Hurricane Sandy, Fashion Delivers hosted its annual fundraiser, this year at the Museum of Natural History, honoring Albert Boscov, Lauren Bush Lauren and Stephen Ross. A last minute decision had been made to switch from an elegant filet of beef dinner to cocktails only, the goal being to donate all those filet dinners to cold and hungry victims of Hurricane Sandy. Despite the rain, sleet, snow and high winds, 400 people showed up at the museum to pay tribute to the honorees and this truly amazing organization that has, in its seven years of existence, raised more than $150 million worth of new clothing for those in need. Last night’s dinner raised nearly $1 million!
It should be noted that while 850 companies have generously provided merchandise for the cause, freight costs to ship product around the globe have escalated and there’s still tremendous need for donations. To help: fashiondelivers.org.
