“We are extremely excited with the launch of Utex men’s outerwear for fall 2013 and with over 40 years of experience in retail, we are ready to meet the challenges of today’s global markets,” commented DDK chief executive Hershey Gold.
Utex Corp. emerged from financial trouble last year and is now licensing some of its brands. Richard Gurberg explains: “Utex filed for creditor protection and then decided to wind down its import operations. We made a proposal to creditors, overwhelmingly approved, and wound imports down through 2012. By the fall, we switched hats and became a licensing firm and have licensed out certain products, under certain owned brands.”
Montreal-based DDK specializes in branded and private label men’s swimwear and outerwear. Its brands include Caribbean Joe, Joseph Abboud, Lambretta and Stonecast.
