Many industry folk were unsure what to expect from Kenneth Cole’s first return to the runway in seven years following major restructuring, most notably Cole’s 2012 buy back of the company from shareholders, particularly major shareholder Bandera Partners LLC. Following the success of his takeover bid last year, this show would certainly be the stage on which any new direction would be set.
The show was an astonishing 360-degree shift from the high street store basics that have become synonymous with the brand. Heavily stylized looks accessorized with felt equestrian hats and leather biker gloves gave the collection an upscale edginess. Fabric blocking, leather layering, and a moody palette of black, grey, and dark autumnal colors combined with very contemporary silhouettes to offer a new brand image for Kenneth Cole and his Collection.
