Jeffrey Lubell has stepped down as chairman, CEO and creative director of True Religion as the upmarket denim and jeans company continues to explore strategic alternatives.
Lubell will serve as chairman emeritus and a creative consultant to the company for the next two years. The group revealed earlier this month that it would not extend Lubell’s employment contact beyond June 30 as it continues to review the business.
“Now is the right time to facilitate the next phase of the company’s development and growth, and for me to seek new creative endeavors,” Lubell said.
True Religion has appointed its president, Lynne Koplin, as interim CEO. She joined the business as chief operating officer in January 2010 and was promoted to president in August 2011.
Koplin has previously served as president of the women’s division at Tommy Bahama, a subsidiary of Oxford Industries. She has also worked at apparel and retail companies, including Warnaco, I Magnin, Marshall Field and Burdines.
“In the last ten years, Jeff has taken True Religion from a start-up to one of the truly iconic brands in the premium denim market. Under his leadership, True Religion has become a premier global fashion company — far exceeding its original goals,” the True Religion board of directors said.
“Jeff’s vision for and commitment to this business has been, and will continue to be, a key driver of True Religion’s success. He has not just made a mark on our company but on the industry as a whole. We are grateful for his contributions to the company.”
In addition, True Religion said the evaluation of its business is ongoing and it does not intend to disclose or comment until the review is completed.
The company last month posted a small reduction in fourth-quarter profit to reach $13.5 million, but registered strong sales in its core US and developing overseas businesses.
