Originating as a leather goods label in 1982, the Andrew Marc brand, owned by G-III Apparel, has grown into a full lifestyle company. Although the brand is positioned as a luxury label sold in most major department stores, it hasn’t always maintained its position in the ‘fashion’ conversation; the mid-tier diffusion line Marc New York has sometimes seemed to take center stage.
At New York Fashion Week, on the steps of Lincoln Center, male models stood in black satin bomber jackets with ‘Andrew Marc x Richard Chai’ embroidered on the back. The Richard Chai show, one of the first of the week, featured the new collaborative collection of outerwear. With Richard Chai named creative consultant for Andrew Marc in May of this year, the collaboration appears to be the beginning of a move by the company towards a more fashion-forward market position.
The leather jackets were moto-inspired, slim fitting, with quilted detailing and bold use of hardware in black, white, and cognac. Very cool.
