MRket New York FW14 – Highlights and Picks

MR’s editorial assistant Stephen Garner on leather bomber jackets, handcrafted shoes and embellished suits at MRket New York.

Hundreds of dapper men and women filled the Javits Center’s North Pavilion at MRket’s New York trade show. All sorts of buzz filled the space as buyers and press circulated the venue seeking out great new pieces for FW14. Most exhibitors I spoke with reported exceptional sales so far, which is a welcomed commentary to this ever-so-slowly moving economy.

When I arrived at the show, I entered Vanguard’s Gallery, which set the tone for the whole show. It is definitely the shining centerpiece. The gallery space offered a selection of new, emerging designers and also already established brands that are offering something fresh and exciting to the market. Michael Macko’s curated displays really highlighted the best of what is trending now for FW14. Great heritage pieces, collegiate prep attire, luxurious wardrobe essentials, casual day wear and fantastic prints are all featured throughout the space.

My personal highlights and favorites from MRket include gorgeous leather bomber jackets, handcrafted shoes and embellished suits.

Krammer & Stoudt

The first thing that caught my eye upon entering Vanguard’s Gallery was a Krammer & Stoudt red leather jacket. The Italian leather jacket, which featured a shearling collar, was both sophisticated and edgy and an Italian calfskin bomber jacket was another great piece that really stood out.

Carlos Santos

Portuguese shoe designer Carlos Santos features beautifully handcrafted shoes that any man would love to wear. All of the styles featured at MRketNY, from the wingtips, double monk straps, and Chelsea boots, were exquisite and sure to sell well.

This generational Italian brand is just starting to focus on its American distribution and growth. Great double-breasted and single-breasted topcoats made of virgin wool, mohair, and alpaca are the sure highlights of their FW14 line. This brand has seen great success in Japan, and soon American men will be searching for these great pieces.

This London-based menswear label’s newest collection inspired by the “power of your own stage” is an empowering collection that features luxurious fabrics with unusual embellishments and details. Leather, studs, and metallic strips are used to make more fun, yet unusual, wardrobe staples.
