Before the newly added doors open to the public today (there were previously no doors to the store, just a true-to-Canal-Street-style metal shutter), we got a first look at the converted concept shop space. While the store looks much like any other Canal Street store from the outside, the inside has been entirely transformed into a highly curated gallery-like space. Natural wood pegboard shelving and custom powder-coated metal racks hang against the exposed brick, with custom-built furniture and fixtures. Mr. Sam Shipley was on hand to take us on a tour through the merchandised product of the brand’s numerous divisions, beginning towards the store’s entrance with specially made mugs and tees inspired by the more typical Canal Street wares, and on, passed collaborations with Vans (hand-painted tennis shoes) and Billykirk (hand-painted iPhone cases) to the SS14 collection.
The store, at 385 Canal Street between Thompson and West Broadway, will run February 4-23, from 11am to 6pm daily.
