The former licensees of fashion and lifestyle company Ecko Unltd have filed for bankruptcy protection.
MEE Apparel and Mee Direct, which sell clothing under the brand names Ecko Unltd and Unltd, filed for voluntary Chapter 11 protection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey earlier this week.
The pair have listed $30 million in assets and $62 million in debt. According to the filings, Ecko’s financial troubles began in 2009 as market trends moved to “a cleaner more mainstream look” that pushed the brand’s clothing line out of fashion.
