These show-stopping windows on the Lexington Avenue side of the Bloomingdale’s flagship convey just a fraction of the excitement inside the stores.
According to men’s fashion director Kevin Harter, Bloomingdale’s went to some of its favorite designers, gave them access to Beatles archives (through Apple Records), and challenged them to develop their own 2008 take on 1960s style. The result exceeded all expectations: fashion icons like Marc Jacobs, John Varvatos, Theory, Psycho Bunny and Hickey went all-out to create amazing Beatles-inspired product from velvet blazers with graphic linings to cashmere scarves to mod suits to engraved iPods with all the Beatles’ music (ten sold immediately @ $799 retail…).
In just a few days, Fab Four fashion is already defying the odds in this roller coaster economy. Maybe all we need is love…
Each week, we’ll post a photo or two of great window displays, creative merchandising, or other visual representations of retail. If your store has windows or displays you think we ought to know about, send them to web editor Harry Sheff.
