Juicy Couture is placing the “Brittania/Nouveau Punk” trend front and center at their 5th Avenue store in Manhattan. On Monday evening, the “male” mannequins were clad in kilts of varying tartans (in an updated, slim-fit model, of course), with tops varying from an updated argyle cardigan to a fuzzy hooded sweater and…well, a Roman gladiator’s helmet and breastplate! A quick check of the store’s interior confirmed my suspicions that the kilts (and gladiator costume), were not actually for sale. (I would have asked a salesperson, but they were all quite busy…you guessed it…waiting on European “New York Marathon” runner-tourists.) The display did its job well, stopping Karen and me in our tracks—and drawing me into the store—professional curiosity not withstanding. –JJ
Each week, we’ll post a photo or two of great window displays, creative merchandising, or other visual representations of retail. If your store has windows or displays you think we ought to know about, send them to
