Item of the Week: Frye Shoes

When an iconic brand like Frye puts together a fashion collection, one might be tempted to think “Why mess with perfection?”

Well, the brand’s design staff deserves a standing ovation for creating styles that stay true to the brand’s rough and tumble aesthetic, offering something colorful and on-trend to the Frye-believer as well as the fashion shoe hound.

It would be difficult to pick a favorite from the collection, but I think, on one hand, this safer vintage-oxford, the James Wingtip ($198 MSRP), fits the bill nicely, for a shoe that shows some character at work and cool in the evening. The Reed Runner ($128), on the other hand, is the vehicle that may take Frye to the next level, breaking into sneaker culture with a ‘70s vibe.

Each week, MR’s editors will comment on a product we’ve seen in the market. It could be an emerging trend, a novel take on a classic or something that just caught our eyes.
