When I smelled Blu di Provenza, one of Pal Zileri’s new Collezione Privata line of men’s colognes, at a trade show last summer, I was intrigued: here was a masculine lavender scent. It’s clean smelling, and while it’s not quite like the typical men’s colognes on the mass market, it’s not so avant garde that it’ll scare a confident man off. Think of it as the aromatic equivalent of the silk pocket square that comes with every bottle in the Collezione Privata—dignified, but suave, and very Italian.
The Collezione Privata is four men’s fragrances: Blue di Provenza; Colonia Purissima, a woody vetiver with some orange top notes; Cashmere Ambra, a spicy amber; and Viaggio d’Africa, a fresh floral with masculine woody notes.
At $100 for 3.4 oz., these fragrances are more expensive than Pal Zileri’s main line, which retail for around $65. Both lines are distributed by Europerfumes, which is happy to work with independent retailers on smaller orders. The Collezione Privata may be carried piecemeal, but if retailers carry all four, they come with a display.
