The epitome of California casual, Trovata designer John Whitledge started the brand out of his dorm room in 2002. The brand evolved quickly to become a key resource for Barneys, Nordstrom and New York’s Odin.
At the Denise Williamson showroom last week, Whitledge walked us through the spring 2010 “Old California” themed collection and describes it as “easy, versatile, go-to pieces. We know our customer isn’t wearing Trovata head-to-toe, but he can choose from the line and mix them into his wardrobe.” He pointed out notable details like removable epaulets, unique wooden buttons and garment-dyed seersucker fabrics.
Shirting is one of their specialties and they’re known for in-house designed prints, plaids and stripes. Stand-outs include these double-faced gauze wovens and 100 percent cotton knits—all have a relaxed, casual draped silhouette and soft hand.
