It is so cliche, but everything old IS new again. At least that's the way it felt this weekend at Moda Calzado, the shoe show in Madrid, Spain. From the more recent stylings of the 1980's to those of the 1920's, 1890's and beyond, to me, it feels like the style of the 2000s is finally coalescing into something which is both new and old, refreshing and recognizable, art deco and organic in approach. Have a look at these styles, and I'll include a more in-depth report in MR's April issue.
Castaner updates the spectator in tri-tone.
Wrinkles aren't always bad – these styles from Castaner look like they were passed down from your grandfather.
Positively medieval from Pikolinos.
Sendra’s Mariachi tribute.
Vienty’s woman’s boot carries on the art deco style.
Also from Vienty, one of the popular colors of the season in women’s: petroleum. We called it the color of money.
Moccasin looks from Panama Jack, better known as Havana Joe in the U.S.

Above two photos: Strong, textured demi-boot looks from Luan Maro.
Pertini’s crocodile takes the old lizard to a new and elegant place.
Pertini’s faux spats are part Fred Astaire, part Sergeant Pepper…(but I did spot this look at Vegas at Stacy Adams first.)
And, finally, is it medieval or KISS-inspired? the team at New Rock tells me that all their styles from when they were originally founded in the early 1980’s are back in demand.
