Sean "Diddy" Combs buys Enyce from Liz Claiborne

October 22, 2008

Liz Claiborne has continued its strategic reorganization with the sale of fashion label Enyce to entrepreneur and rap artist Sean "Diddy" Combs.

The deal comes only months after the company said it would be keeping the brand, and said it planned to strengthen and expand its activities, despite the sale of other labels in its portfolio.

Denim-based sportswear brand Enyce sells knits, wovens, outerwear and graphic tees for men and boys, as well as a women's line and "big and tall" items.

Founded in 1996, it was bought by Liz Claiborne in 2003.

In a joint statement, both parties said they would work together to ensure "a smooth and orderly transition" for retail partners, vendors and employees.

"Enyce is a brand that I have always admired, and they have been a very important player in the young men's sportswear arena for over a decade," said Combs, founder and CEO of Sean John.

"Our long-term plan is to grow the Enyce brand through innovative marketing, expansion of the men's wear and boys' lines, and launching into new licensing categories.

"The current economic climate may be challenging, but we believe it is also an opportunity, and we are really excited to add Enyce to our line-up."

Liz Claiborne CEO William McComb added: "As we continue to implement our strategy of building powerful brands, we determined that we can't properly maximise the potential of Enyce.

"Enyce is a strong brand with a loyal customer following, however the unsettled economic environment and our commitment to properly resource and focus on other brands in our portfolio contributed to this decision."
