This week’s featured item is a tie designed by Dion for Prostate Cancer Canada. The striped design, which also comes in a ladies’ scarf, will be sold in stores during Prostate Cancer Awareness month—June.
“The purpose of these ties,” says Dion’s Peter Tsihlias, “is to draw awareness of this dreadful disease; one in six men will be affected by it.” To date, Dion has made nearly 3,000 ties and 500 scarves, and more than 100 retailers have asked to participate.
The tie will sell for $65 and most of the money—$50 per tie—will go directly to Prostate Cancer Canada. The remaining $15 goes to the retailer.
“Dion believes in promoting this campaign and not profiting by it,” said Tsihlias. That means that the ties and scarves are being produced at a loss for Dion. “The ties and scarves were developed and made at our facilities here in Vaughan, Canada with the same quality and craftsmanship as all our other products,” he continued. “The only profit to be made here is the contribution to research and development to a cure for prostate cancer.”

Each week, MR’s editors will comment on a product we’ve seen in the market. It could be an emerging trend, a novel take on a classic or something that just caught our eyes.
