Item of the Week: T-Box Compressed Apparel

By: Alex Féthière

January 13, 2009

There aren’t a lot of things that make good register-area add-ons—because we’ve seen it all, and it must be small. It must fit into the tone or ambiance of your store.

If you haven’t heard of Istanbul’s T-box, you should consider it for this coveted spot. It’s simultaneously a clever way to package and display lightweight men’s basics like t-shirts and boxers. The t-shirts and boxers (among other articles, and some for women) are compressed into cute molded silhouettes of their own likeness and then shrinkwrapped, complete with English/Turkish instructions that won’t exactly help children use the product for the first time.

Each piece of “Duht Brahma,” the boxers, has one of four different messages that are send-ups of instructions. The text of mine included the following: “Are we reading enough? We hardly read even a simple instruction whereas Japanese read 25 books in a year. (If you have read up to here, whether you had read a T-box instruction before or your ancestors are Japanese!) T-box sets its hands to this issue and presents a brand new product that will reinforce reading habit: Duht Brahma. Well if Duht Brahma encourages reading can its instruction also do it?” Etc. Be sure that I read the entire thing, and not just out of professional habit.

T-box is available for U.S. retail from Altinyildiz Corp. Contact Zeynep at 212.588.9900, or e-mail zeynep@altinyildiz-usa.com. www.t-box.com.tr

Each week, MR’s editors will comment on a product we’ve seen in the market. It could be an emerging trend, a novel take on a classic or something that just caught our eyes.
