Each Wednesday, MR’s editors will comment on a product we’ve seen in the market. It could be an emerging trend, a notable example of a classic, a novel new take on a classic or something that just caught our eyes.
Carlos Campos sent a double-hitter down the runway during New York Fashion Week, showing a hot new silhouette that may be the jacket of the season, and executed in one of spring 2009’s leading accent colors.
The jacket is a variant on the post-World War II Eisenhower jacket, and the short, blouson style features plenty of pockets. Campos dubbed the color “electric blue,” and the hue, or at least its neighbors on the color wheel, were seen at Diesel and Sergio Davila.
According to Wikipedia, U.S. Army General and Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe Dwight D. Eisenhower introduced the design in 1943. The jacket became a popular casual alternative for leisure time made possible by post-war prosperity. It also became the silhouette for police officers, bus drivers, gas station attendants and many other uniformed service industry professionals. –JJ
